Skateboarding in Minnesota

Shoreview, MN Skateboard park
The first photo is a picture of the Govt. Banks in downtown Minneapolis.  I remember seeing someone skating this spot when I was a teenager and visiting the city.   Back then, this guy was doing rock n rolls and board slides to fakie, and needless to say I was impressed!   I also included a photo of the nice mini ramp found at the Shoreview, MN skateboard park.   I have never visited this spot, but would like to try and skate it this spring or summer.  I have alot of friends and family that live in the cities, and I need to take my kids skating at the numerous park.

Another spot I would like to skate is Mounds View Skateboard park.   It looks like a fun, mellow, concrete park.  Check out the picture below:

Chet Childress: Camp Life for OJ Wheels

'

This video highlights the van life of Chet Childress.  He skates some fun looking concrete parks and displays the lip tricks and great skating he is well known for.  I appreciate the lifestyle Childress has been able to maintain.  He travels the word skateboarding and building DIY spots.  I saw a recent article in Transworld in which Chet helped build a DIY park in Bolivia.  Enjoy the video and learn how to live on the cheap!

Skateboarding in Minneapolis: Red Bull Video

Minneapolis is the city you probably didn't know you needed to visit to if you're a skateboarder.

Throw a rock from one skate spot in downtown Minneapolis and you're likely to hit another — the grouping of skyscrapers and granite on the west bank of the Mississippi River is dense like that. The city center has been skated for some 25 years with some spots, like the Garage, staying relevant and skateable that whole time.

Count Heckula: Brian Heck

"More specifically, we wondered just how different Heckula was from the real Brian Heck. 'He’s different, he was an arrogant asshole, and all of his friends hated him. He was pretty much looking to party all the time, he really had no time to do anything else, because he was too drunk or hungover to do anything.' Going on with Count Heckula’s general M.O., 'He drank a lot of Keystone Lights during the day, and fire water after the sun went down at the Colonial Lounge, Mandan, North Dakota.'"

Outdoor Skateboard Ramp Skateboard: Hood River Vert Ramp and Other Vert Ramps

Hood River
The Hood River vert ramp has a new home and it’s not far from its current home. Word has it that some folks in Parkdale, a community south of Hood River, are moving the ramp to an indoor location. That’s all we know. With respect to Grover, well, he’s sad, dejected and keeping a stiff upper lip. Hang in there champ; sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. More photos after the turn.

Vert ramps are rare, but when I was younger they were much more common. I used to go to the Twin Cities Skate Oasis, and watch Justin Lynch, and other riders, skateboarding the huge vert ramp:

Here are some other photos of vert ramps:
