Portland, Oregon Backyard Mini Ramp Pictures

As I creep steadily towards the balding and weight gain stages often associated with middle age, the only option I see is getting back into riding my skateboard.   So, I have started researched some backyard skateboard ramps that would help me get a workout, have fun, and drink some beers while riding my board.

After reading the posts from http://jennifersherowski.com/blog/tag/backyard-mini-ramp/, I found myself being jealous of the backyard skate scene in Portland, OR.  I live in the middle of Minnesota, and I can only think of one or two backyard ramps in this area that I know of.   I usually head over to Crosby to skate the mini-ramp they have in their park.

Here are a few of my favorite pics. from her blog:

Charleston, South Carolina DIY Skateboarding Scene

25 Years and Counting from Lunch and Recess on Vimeo.

From the Vimeo Description:

In 1989 the skateboarders of Charleston, SC began talking with city officials about building a skateboard park. Though the city seemed cooperative, the process is taking VERY long. Many skaters over the years took it upon themselves to build backyard ramps and DIY spots in different locations from abandoned buildings to slab foundations. Those spots came and went, some eroded by nature and time, some bulldozed by the owners of the land. But each time a spot was torn down, another started with a single idea, a seed from which other projects grew until the skate spot was a DIY skate park. This is the beginning of the next DIY spot in Charleston, which will have to suffice while local skaters continue to talk with city and county officials.

DIY SPOT CZECH Republic: Skateboarding

DIY or CRY Garage from Darkslide.cz on Vimeo.

DIY or CRY Garage is the new DIY spot near Prague, Czech Republic
Starring: Tomáš Krňávek. Roman Špaček, Ondra Filípek, Filip Slivka, Miloš Hroch, Aleš Vodvářka, Mirek Kvapil, Matyáš Volek, Tomáš Velický and Daniel Vojtaš.
Project was supported by Darkslide.cz, Polar Skate Co. and Vans

---This place looks like too much fun and would be a perfect little design for a DIY park here in Brainerd, MN.   There are plenty of abandoned cement pads, and even an abandoned cement pad that used to be the skateboard park.  How tough would it be to get some people together and build some transitions at LUM PARK?
