Skaters will have some new places to eat this summer: Brainerd, Minnesota Food Truck Ordinance Passes!

Article written by Chelsey Perkins via the Brainerd Dispatch:
An ordinance governing food trucks in the city of Brainerd is now on the books.
In a 5-2 vote, the Brainerd City Council approved the ordinance Monday night, establishing the permitted boundaries, hours of operation and uses.
The ordinance covers all "transient food units," including trailers, wagons, carts and seasonal temporary food stands. The trucks will be allowed to park in eight designated zones, on public and private property in the city, most from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. In the downtown zone, hours of operation allowed are from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The trucks will be allowed to sell only food and nonalcoholic beverages and must acquire a license from the city of Brainerd. Operators are not allowed to draw attention to themselves with audible noise or music beyond the unit, nor is exterior lighting permitted. Sales are not permitted within 300 feet of a brick-and-mortar restaurant or bar that serves food or within the same distance from the property perimeter of any festival, sporting event or civic event.

DIY Skateboard Spot Pictures.

List of DIY Skateboard Spots and links

http://www.confuzine.com/2013/07/31/my-d-i-y-atwater-california/  DIY by concrete worker in CA.  Great pictures documenting the building process of a skateboard oasis in his backyard.  Lots of beer and bags of concrete involved in these innovative skate structures.

http://www.confuzine.com/category/skateboarding/diy-skateboarding/  A plethora of DIY spots mainly in Europe but also spots from all over world are featured at this Confuzine link.

Ruoke DIY – Finland

Ruoke is a small village outside Jyvaskyla city in Finland, and that’s where the name of the spot originates from. The spot is about 10 km from Jyvaskyla, near Ruoke village in the middle of nowhere on this abandoned highway stop. Those barriers have been there for ages and we all have had our eyes on them for years. Two years ago Ville and few other guys started this spot by doing a small concrete tranny to make one of those barriers skateable. Later on they moved one of the barriers closer to the other barrier and cast them together, making it a kind of a pool corner – then some layers of paint – and that’s it. A perfect little spot in the middle of nowhere. Really steep and hard as fuck to skate, but perfectly functional and just perfect! I love it! There’s a small special feature about this spot. There’s this huge spruce tree on one side of the area and there’s a small wooden cross and always one electric candle burning. Kinda spooky. There was a car crash at that spot a while ago and someone died in it. The family has made ths spot kind of a sanctuary… There are plans to continue the project, but we’ll see what happens. I like it the way it is now. Rough and hard.

SKATEPARK DESIGNS HAVE GOTTEN BETTER in the past 10 years, but that doesn’t mean cement turds aren’t still being dropped in towns all over the world. Certified Piece of Suck is our dishonorable award for botched, butchered, and just plain bad skatepark design. Here’s a look at some garbage terrain from past issues of the mag.

DIY Skateboard Videos: Atlanta Locals Creating Inspiration for Brainerd Spot

Atlanta Locals Creating Inspiration for Brainerd Spot.  Why can't a town or small city reuse some of the old vacant lots and let skateboarders create a spot for fun, exercise, and just having a place to hang out and skate?

Liability seems to be one of the main hindrances in the United States.  But like the DIY Atlanta build video above proves, with enough man power and tenacity, towns across the United States could have their own DIY Skateboard Park.

Artifact DIY Skate Spot Video/ DIY Brainerd?

Check out these clips of DIY skateboarding.  I wonder if there are any vacant lots in Brainerd that would work for a ghetto skate spot like the one in the video above. What would be the legality of having some homemade bank ramps and quarter pipes at the location of the old skateboard park at the Jaycee's Park in Brainerd.   It would be nice to have a place to skate and have sessions under lights during the summer, and maybe do a little concrete pouring like they have done in Duluth.  Check out the DIY Duluth page.

Minnesota Skateboard Parks in towns way smaller than Brainerd

Here are some pictures of skateboard parks in small towns in Minnesota. Please be sure to notice the population size of the towns with skate parks.  My question is why Brainerd doesn't have a skateboard park?

Lanesboro, MN: Population 754 according to 2010 census
Another view of the park in Lanseboro is below:

Aitkin, MN Population 2087  (2013)

Marshall, MN: population 13,483 (2013)
